Notes
This is the 2nd "Chequers" on this site. I have been told that the original one was where the car park, smoking area and benching are at the front of the current pub and that this one was built behind before the old one was demolished and that the switchover meant that no drinking sessions where missed. You drank in the old pub one evening and the new one opened for the lunch time trade the next day. If anybody has any info / photos please email chequers@old-rotherham.co.uk .
CAMRA'a What Pub site description states "Next to a 13th-century thatched barn, this friendly local replaced an old coaching inn when the road was widened in 1933. One side of the bar acts as a tap room, with a split-level lounge to the right. The large garden features a barbecue area. Events are sometimes held there. In the heart of Whiston, the pub is a regular local CAMRA award winner. The food is home-cooked by chefs. Features include quiz nights, discos, occasional live music and scooter club meets. Music Festivals and Charity events held in garden during the summer."
